ViaSat purchases steerable beam on Avanti’s Hylas-4 in 2-year, $10 million contract

SINGAPORE — Viasat Inc. has leased a steerable Ka-band beam on Avanti Communications’ Hylas 4 satellite in a two-year, $10 million contract, Avanti announced June 25.

The contract comes just weeks after ViaSat’s European broadband partner, Eutelsat, announced that it would not be joining ViaSat in the ViaSat-3 satellite over Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Instead, Eutelsat is building its own satellite after securing large capacity-purchase agreements from Orange and Thales of France.
