U.S. FCC proposing faster/better/(& much) cheaper licensing process for commercial smallsats

PARIS —The U.S. telecom regulator is proposing to carve out a new regulatory regime for commercial smallsat businesses, hoping to remove obstacles that have caused some of them to register as experimental systems.

Key among the proposals, which will now be sent out for public comment, is a reduction in the application fee for commercial smallsat systems, from today’s $454,705 to $30,000.
