LA PLATA, Maryland —Thales Group is reducing its space division work force by 1,300 posts, a 15% drop as part of a restructuring the company said is necessary given the headwinds facing its commercial telecommunications satellite business.
In addition to the drop in geostationary-satellite orders that has almost every established satellite manufacturer, The 67% Thales-owned Thales Alenia Space is facing issues in the completion of development of its showcase new product, the SpaceInspire software-defined satellite platform.
