Thales Alenia Space, Airbus outline progress on troubled software-defined satellite programs, say verticalization isn’t needed

PARIS — Europe’s two biggest satellite manufacturers said they have solved the issues that have stalled deliveries of their pioneering software-defined satellites but that the designs are still in their development phase.

Airbus Defence and Space’s OneSat and Thales Alenia Space’s SpaceInspire software-defined payloads were the first on the market. But both companies ran into trouble with development and have since told customers the sateltilres would be a year or two late.

Both companies count on satellite telecommunications for 30-40 . . .
