LA PLATA, Maryland — Satellite fleet operator Telesat said it has begun ramping up spending for its $3.5-billion Lightspeed broadband satellite constellation in advance of the confirmation of Canadian government investment of $2 billion.
Canada-based Telesat expects that the commitments from the Canadian federal and Quebec provincial governments will be made definitive by the end of this year or early in 2024. That will enable the company to begin making large payments to Lightspeed prime contractor MDA Corp.
