PARIS — Satellite fleet operator Telesat Canada said consolidation likely will not rescue the fixed satellite services industry because overcapacity is too widespread and that Telesat is counting on its LEO constellation to solve the problem.
Having said that, Telesat Chief Executive Daniel S. Goldberg said he agreed with statements from competitors including Intelsat that there has been no serious decline in transponder prices in recent months. He also agreed that it’s when long-term contracts come up for renewal that the prevailing lower prices becomes and issue.
