Sweden’s defense procurement agency invests in making Esrange facility an orbital spaceport

LA PLATA, Maryland — In an important boost to Sweden’s plans to add an orbital-launch capability to its Estrange suborbital launch base, the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) is joining the Swedish Space Corp. (SSC) in managing development of Esrange to serve Sweden’s national military space program.

FMV’s decision to join SSC for the Esrange upgrade follows an October decision by the Swedish government to invest about 1 billion Swedish krona ($91.5 million) in military space programs through 2032. The budget specifically includes expanding Estrange . . .
