PARIS — Small-satellite multi-payload constellation operator Spire Global’s current 100-plus fleet will not need to expand, and may even reduce in size, now that the company is integrating inter-satellite links into the network, Spire Chief Executive Peter Platzer said.
Spire, whose satellites are built in Scotland, has not provided size, weight and power specifications for its in-house-built optical inter-satellite terminals, which entered service in 2021. Platzer has said the company has no intention of making a profit center out of laser terminal production.
