LONDON — The Canadian Armed Forces are negotiating with startup satellite broadband provider Space Norway on a Canadian role in the Arctic broadband program, complicating life for Telesat Canada but further cementing Space Norway’s status as the most financially sound of the non geostationary broadband systems.
Space Norway is operated as a commercial company but is owned by the Norwegian government, which has guaranteed 1 billion Norwegian kroner ($118.2 million) in equity backing if the company lines up enough customer/partner support to assure long-term profitability.
