Sounds almost quaint: Germany’s Bundeswehr in $2.26B turnkey contract w/ Airbus for 2 GEO-orbit sats & 15 years’ operations

TUPPER LAKE, NY — Airbus won a contract with the German armed forces, Bundeswehr, to provide a turnkey communications system with two geostationary-orbit satellites, ground equipment, launch and 15 years of operations for 2.1 billion euros ($2.26 billion).

Airbus announced the award July 4. Germany’s Bundestag had approved the budget on June 26.

Given the focus on proliferated space assets in low Earth orbit by many militaries, the Bundeswehr’s Satcom Bw3 system looks almost quant. It is . . .
