LA PLATA, Maryland — In a clear break with its past strategy, the European Space Agency (ESA) has agreed to co-invest in small-launcher startups’ development to improve their chances of making it to first orbital flight.
The agency announced Nov. 19 that it is spending 44.22 million euros ($46.6 million) “reinforcing ESA’s role in empowering these space launch companies as they transition from technical development to the start of operational services.”
