LA PLATA, Maryland — Mobile satellite services operator Ligado Networks, which for 20 years has struggled to deploy a satellite/terrestrial 5G broadband network in the United States, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection with an exit plan relying on investment from mobile satellite operator AST SpaceMobile in return for AST’s access to Ligado’s L-band spectrum.
