Satellite laser terminal builder Tesat: ‘We bled a lot’ in SDA’s Tranche 0; now the overall supply chain has issues

MILAN — Laser communications terminals for optical inter-satellite links (OISLs) is widely viewed as a key technology for tomorrow’s telecommunications and Earth observation constellations.

The Telesat Lightspeed and Kepler Communications constellations for broadband delivery and data-transfers have both contracted for OISLs in their constellations, both under construction. SpaceX’s Starlink has thousands of OISLs in orbit and earlier this year said it would start selling them to other operators.
