LA PLATA, Maryland — Startup British launch-service provider Orbex’s decision to stop construction of its own spaceport in Sutherland, Scotland, and to relocate to SaxaVord Spaceport in nearby Shetland is part of a likely inevitable consolidation among spaceports in development in Western Europe.
it is also a striking turnaround for SaxaVord, which despite having secured Rocket Factory Augsburg and HyImpulse Technologies as launch customers was alleging until recently that the Scottish government was biased in favor of Sutherland.
