BRUSSELS — The European Space Agency (ESA) is expected to wade into the dangerous water of selecting for funding certain launcher startups, and leaving others to work things out on their own.
The European Launcher Challenge (ELC), expected to be funded at about 150 million euros ($156 million) will oblige winners to meet certain development milestones on the way to first launch.
ELC’s ultimate goal is to provide an impetus for the selected startups to increase the size of their rockets to compete with Europe . . .
