PARIS— Amazon Chairman Jeff Bezos said his company’s plan to launch several thousand satellites into low Earth orbit for global broadband coverage is the kind of big gamble a company of Amazon’s size needs to make to assure growth.
In remarks June 6 at Amazon’s Re: MARS conference in Las Vegas, Bezos made clear he was fully supporting Project Kuiper, as the satellite initiative is known, and that Amazon is willing to lose the billions of dollars it will take in capex.
