PARIS — Iridium Communications’ well-kept secret that it has been working with Qualcomm Technologies for over two years to add Iridium L-band short-messaging connectivity to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 5G Modem-RF Systems for Android phones is similar to what competitor Globalsar is doing with Apple.
The principal difference is that Apple is investing to expand the Globalstar satellite constellation to make it global. Iridium’s network is already global, with no further needed on the satellite side.
