LA PLATA, Maryland — Iridium Communications Inc. will begin testing its satellite direct-to-device service this summer with Norway’s Nordic Semiconductor, a technology expected to be part of the 3GPP organization’s Release 19 at the end of the year.
How long it will take before Iridium’s L-band D2D narrowband solution, which starts with just texting, will be integrated into chipsets for mobile phones and other devices is unclear. But Iridium’s confidence that its L-band service, which has a global regulatory license, will fit . . .
