PARIS — Intelsat expects it will cost close to $2 billion to clear U.S. satellite C-band spectrum for terrestrial 5G networks now that the satellite operators that use the spectrum have agreed to increase their offer to 200 MHz.
Estimates coming from market observers — not Intelsat or its C-Band Alliance partners SES, Eutelsat and Telesat — were that it would take $1 billion to $2 billion to clear 150 MHz, including a 50 MHz guard band, to rearrange their C-band businesses to make room for 5G operators.
