WASHINGTON — MDA Space has been riding fair winds and following seas for two years now and looks likely to be the first to build a volume production facility turning out software-defined satellites.

Its MDA Aurora production is scheduled to be at a rate of two per day by 2026.

The company has used its 200-satellite, $1.55-billion Telesat Lightspeed broadband order to anchor the new production capacity, and after more than a year of play name-that-customer, identified Apple-backed . . .
