PARIS — Germany’s presidency of the European Union is setting a high priority on space traffic management not as a way of avoiding satellite collisions or debris buildup but of thwarting U.S. moves to set a global standard, a German government official said.
Kai-Uwe Schrogl, a veteran space policy analyst and now in Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy advising the German EU presidency, said letting the United States move forward on its own could reduce European sovereignty over time.
