MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — The U.S. Commerce Department’s recent decision to make it easier for US geospatial imagery companies to sell satellites abroad may be limited to close U.S. allies, but imagery companies said a wider opening seems to be the direction of U.S. policy.
The Commerce Dept.’s Oct. 17 decision cites close U.S. allies as places where satellites could be sold. But that’s not where the market opportunity is, especially since many of these nations already have access to geospatial data.
