PARIS — The head of French Space Command gave a lukewarm endorsement of Europe’s proposed Iris2 multi-orbit secure communications network, placing it in the same category as the French military’s use of commercial space assets.
Maj. Gen. Philippe Adam, whose command in 2023 cancelled a planned third Syracuse IV generation geostationary orbit X- and military-Ka-band satellite to save resources for Iris2, said Iris2’s proposed low Earth orbit component could be valuable to the French military, but that the military is a part of Iris2 . . .
