LAMPOLDSHAUSEN, Germany — The five European Space Agency (ESA) member governments that likely will decide the outcome of ESA’s European Launcher Challenge (ELC) outlined how they see the competition and what its boundary conditions should be.
France, Germany, Italy, the UK and Spain are not only ESA’s five largest contributors. They also have specific national interests in Europe’s evolving launch sector.
All five have domestic startup launchers seeking access to the European government market, or established vehicles defending their market share.
