PARIS — The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) expects to publish rules governing small satellite operations in the coming weeks after more than a year’s debate over what the regulatory regime should look like.
Many of the provisions are uncertain given the FCC’s initial proposal and the lively industry reaction to it. But it appears certain that the onerous fees imposed on commercial smallsat operators — fees that were set with large satellite constellations in mind — will come down dramatically.
