LA PLATA, Maryland — Eutelsat Group said it has built a profitable business in sub-Saharan Africa providing broadband access to small villages that generate just $300 per month at $1 per Gigabyte, even after co-financing the installation of solar panels.
The service, whose early markets are in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania and the Ivory Coast, includes a Committed Information Rate (CIR) of 1 Mbps per village. The link is with Eutelsat’s Konnect broadband satellite in geostationary orbit.
