Europe’s Vega-C rocket returns to flight 2 years after failure, orbiting much-needed Sentinel 1C radar observation satellite

LA PLATA, Maryland — Europe’s Vega-C medium-lift rocket successfully returned to flight on Dec. 5, placing the Sentinel-1C radar Earth observation satellite, part of Europe's Copernicus network, into low Earth orbit.

Twenty-three months after its December 2022 failure on its second launch, Vega-C has now joined the heavy-lift Ariane 6, which conducted a largely successful inaugural flight in July, to return Europe’s autonomous access to space after two years of being dependent on SpaceX's Falcon 9
