Europe’s final 1st-gen Vega rocket delivers Sentinel 2C optical observation satellite into orbit to assure Copernicus data continuity

TUPPER LAKE, NY — Europe’s standard-version Vega launcher, in its 22nd and final flight, on Sept. 4 successfully placed the Sentinel 2C optical Earth imaging satellite into a sun-synchronous orbit at 775 kilometers in altitude about 58 minutes after liftoff from Europe's Guiana Space Center, on the northeast coast of South America.

The satellite was reported healthy in orbit and sending signals about 13 minutes after separation from the Vega upper stage.

Sentinel 2C is part of the Copernicus environment-monitoring network financed by the European Commission . . .
