European Commission to commercial geospatial market: Want more contracts from us? Treat us as a priority customer

LA PLATA, Maryland — European governments are looking for ways to increase support for Europe’s commercial satellite geospatial imagery sector while respecting government agencies’ data-distribution rules and commercial companies’ evolving business models.

This is no easy task. Some geospatial imagery companies want to focus on value-added services, not the sale of raw imagery. But they also want to limit how their products pass through European government agencies to generate revenue.
