European Commission grapples with how to treat spaceports in non-EU nations Norway and UK

LAMPOLDSHAUSEN, Germany — The European Commission is Europe’s biggest customer for European satellites and launch services, giving it a large, if still untested, role in deciding the future of Europe’s launcher sector.

The Commission has been a vocal supporter of startup launch service providers vehicles with its Flight Ticket Initiative and wants Europe’s launcher supply to grow well beyond the current Ariane 6 heavy-lift and Vega medium-lift rockets.

It has joined with the European Space Agency’s Boost program to provide in-orbit . . .
