Eumetsat, inspired by New Space, funds 3-year prepartion to adopt ESA’s Aeolus, Arctic Weather satellite missions

PARIS — Europe’s meteorological satellite organization, Eumetsat, is setting aside funding to prepare for the use of lower-cost, faster-turnaround missions to complement its existing fleet.

The 30-nation Eumetsat, whose mandate is to provide an operational service for its members and not to speculate on unproven technologies, has already shown its willingness to adopt New Space.

In mid-2021 Eumetsat signed a contract with Spire Global’s Luxembourg division to purchase three years of GPS radio-occultation data from Spire’s 100-satellite . . .
