EU, ESA directors dismiss Airbus CEO letter, say U.S. New Space isn’t what it appears

BAVENO, Italy — The European Commissioner responsible for space dismissed concerns that the Copernicus environment-monitoring network is underfunded in the commission’s proposed seven-year budget but also said the commission retained flexibility to move funds around.

Elzbieta Bienkowska also said the commission’s proposed GovSatCom program, funded at just 250 million euros ($300 million) between 2021 and 2027, could benefit from the proposed 13-billion-euro European Defence Fund.
