PARIS — European Union defense ministers said the Russian anti-satellite test that destroyed one of its retired satellites in low Earth orbit has fueled their motivation to develop a common space-defense strategy.
The strategy, part of a “strategic compass” for the EU, is a high priority for France, which since Jan. 1 has the six-month rotating presidency of the 27-nation EU.
EU defense ministers met Jan. 12-13 in Brest, France, to begin refining the strategic compass, which includes augmented air, maritime and cybersecurity . . .
