EU Commission awards Iris2 contract to Eutelsat/SES/Hispasat consortium, which officials said will invest $4.3B into it

LA PLATA, Maryland — The European Commission on Oct. 31 formally awarded the Iris2 multi-orbit secure communications contract to the SpaceRISE consortium, composed of satellite fleet operators Eutelsat, SES and Hispasat.

The 12-year concession is being managed as a public-private partnership, in which the SpaceRISE members are expected to contribute a combined 4 billion euros over the life of the contract, according to industry officials familiar with the offer.
