PARIS — The coming Release 17 of the 3GPP wireless standards body integrates non-terrestrial networks (NTN) into the 5G world, offering the promise of a much easier path to a much larger market for satellite systems.
The speed of integration will depend on each satellite network’s decision to adopt the standards. But already customers are seeking ground hardware capable of moving between GEO-, MEO- and LEO-orbit systems, and LTE.
