PARIS — Canada’s Federal and Quebec provisional governments cemented their financial commitments to Telesat’s Lightspeed constellation of broadband satellites with a package including 2.54 billion Canadian dollars ($1.87 billion) in loans and warrants for a combined 11.87% of Lightspeed equity at a valuation of $3 billion.
The Sept. 13 conclusion of the months-long negotiations and government assessment of the deal gives Telesat a fully funded Lightspeed budget to build and launch its satellites and build out an extensive ground network.
