PARIS — While the use laser communications terminals (LCTs) to provide high-speed communications between satellites is on the way to becoming a proven technology for military and commercial constellations, customer adoption of optical ground stations is occurring much more slowly.
Constellations including the U.S. Space Development Agency (SDA) Proliferated Warfighter Space Network of hundreds of satellites has created a supply chain of satellite LCTs that meet SDA interoperability standards, but SDA’s constellations communicate to the ground via standard radio frequency.
