LA PLATA, Maryland — Apple, the GSM Association, SpaceX Starlink and the national telecoms regulator of Bahrain agreed that there’s no need to wait for a global frequency allocation for satellite direct-to-cell connectivity as it would take too long to secure.
Regulatory uncertainty has been one of the main arguments against using terrestrial mobile network operators’ frequencies to extend coverage, through satellite direct to cell, to areas that are uneconomic for the MNOs to build out with towers.
