Carnival Cruise/Princess Cruises’s connectivity chief on O3b, Starlink, GEO v MEO v LEO and post-Covid demand

CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida — Carnival Corp. has been a customer of satellite fleet operator SES’s medium-Earth-orbit O3b network for years. In 2017 Carnival-owned Princess Cruises became the first global cruise operation to sign up for early access to the second-generation O3b, called mPower, scheduled for service in the second half of 2023.

The number of satellite companies targeting the mobile connectivity market, and specifically the maritime market,  has only grown since then.
