PARIS — Europe’s meteorological satellite agency, Eumetsat, is taking on a much larger role in the Copernicus environment-monitoring program under a seven-year agreement with the European Commission valued at 735 million euros ($866 million).
The agreement considerably broadens Eumetsat’s Copernicus operations mandate beyond the current Sentinel-3 and Sentinel-6 ocean-focused missions to include future Copernicus satellites on atmospheric and climate monitoring.
