PARIS — Jan Woerner’s tenure as director-general of the 22-nation European Space Agency (ESA) ended on Feb. 28 after about five and one-half years.
It had been scheduled to run through June, but he decided it would be better for both him and his successor, Josef Aschbacher, if he left early.
Woerner agreed months ago to an exit interview to be conducted only after he left. He knew that uncomfortable topics would be addressed, and he was disinclined to revisit unhappy memories.
