SINGAPORE — Asian satellite fleet operators said linear TV still has many years of growth ahead of it in emerging markets but that new HTS (high-throughput satellites) systems were already upsetting bandwidth prices for data.
The Asian tradition of each nation buying its own TV satellite appears to be extending into the HTS sector, making market rationalization for data connectivity just as impossible as it was for the broadcast business.
Even companies that have resisted the trend, including AsiaSat and ABS, said they would be asking for board approval . . .
