PARIS — Satellite fleet operator Eutelsat said its 5 West B satellite, launched in October, has suffered a 55% loss of capacity because of a non-functioning south solar array but will nonetheless operate for the planned 15-year service life.
Built by Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems with a communications payload from Airbus Defence and Space, 5 West B is designed to replace the 5 West A satellite that now provides television for more than 300 TV channels over France, Italy and Algeria.
