PARIS — Satellite fleet operator Telesat has contracted with manufacturers Thales Alenia Space and Maxar Technologies’ SSL to perform a preliminary design for Telesat’s LEO constellation of broadband satellites, a deal that puts the two hardware builders on the inside track for selection as system prime contractor.
Telesat, in a July 30 statement announcing the agreement, cautioned that it would not make a final decision on who will build its constellation — for which financing has not been disclosed — until mid-2019.
