PARIS — Satellite broadband hardware and service provider ViaSat Inc. on May 24 said it would file an insurance claim for two defective Ka-band spot-beam antennas on its ViaSat-2 satellite by June but that the consequences on the satellite’s business plan will be minimal — even if the insurance claim is not.
Industry officials have speculated that ViaSat may ask ViaSat-2 underwriters to pay around $200 million for the glitch, which has forced ViaSat to tinker with its satellite Earth station network and take other measures to mitigate the problem . . .
