LONDON — The promise of a multibillion-dollar satellite telecommunications contract, coupled with indications from British defense officials that they will not favor incumbent Airbus Defense and Space, has lured Lockheed Martin, Boeing and Thales, and perhaps others, into the competition for Britain’s Skynet 6 contract.
Bidding for a major contract like this can cost several million dollars, and none of the Airbus competitors want to incur that cost just to allow the British military to keep Airbus on its toes.
