Maxar Space Systems: We’re reaping the benefits of delays in competitors’ software-defined GEO-orbit satellites

PARIS — The chief executive of satellite manufacturer Maxar Space Systems gave a surprisingly upbeat assessment of the satellite market, and particularly the demand for geostationary-orbit satellites without software-defined payloads.

Dissenting from prevailing opinion, Chris Johnson said Maxar’s decision to be a “second mover” for new technologies, including software-defined payloads, looks to be paying off in light of the struggles of Airbus Defence and Space and Thales Alenia Space in bringing their software-defined products to market.
