Tesat Spacecom, once the king of space lasers, counts on SDA, monopoly concerns to survive against SpaceX’s new product

PARIS— The arrival of SpaceX as a merchant provider of satellite laser communications terminals (LCTs) puts Germany’s Tesat Spacecom in the uncomfortable position of SpaceX’s principal competitor in this technology.

Tesat has been flying LCTs for many years, and recently has introduced a new line of smaller LCTs for satellite constellations, starting with the U.S. Space Development Agency (SDA), which has made LCTs a key piece of its Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture.
