WASHINGTON — Design of Europe’s multibillion-euro Iris2 multi-orbit secure connectivity satellite constellation is about two months behind its initial schedule, with the selection of the European Commission-demanded 30% participation by small companies expected to take months to complete.
The Commission’s original schedule, always viewed as somewhere between aggressive and unrealistic given Iris2’s complexity, called for the industrial consortium leading the design to submit a best-and-final, costed proposal by Dec. 14.
That deadline has now moved to mid-February . . .
