PARIS — Satellite star-tracker manufacturer Sodern in mid-2016 agreed to invest in a new production facility to handle an unheard-of order from OneWeb: 1,800 star trackers for 900 satellites.
OneWeb subsequently went through Chapter 11 bankruptcy and reduced its fleet size to 648 satellites, leaving suppliers like Sodern with the production capacity that would never be needed.
Seven years after the contract, Sodern still views OneWeb as the contract that brought Sodern into the New Space era and that has paid multiple . . .
